- Evolutionary history of Australian arid flora and the underlying biological mechanisms for its survival
Currently, I work on integration and optimisation of different NGS-based methods (llddRAD, hyRAD and HybSeq) to tackle the technical issues associated with herbarium phylogenomics of rapidly and/or recently diverging polyploid plant lineages. My study subjects are taxonomically challenging and species-rich Australian Amaranthaceae including Atriplex, Chenopodium and Tecticornia. I am also interested in the evolutionary history and molecular mechanisms of heterodiaspory in Amaranthaceae — a biological phenomenon that potentially allowed many species to survive in numerous inhospitable environments worldwide. My research projects are funded through DFG priority program SPP 1991 New approaches to discovering and naming biodiversity: Taxon-omics.
